Rose is just starting chemo at midnight - first with a appetizer called Fludarabine, followed by melphalan - a drug designed to kill off the bodys fastest growing cells - in the GI tract - as well as cancer cells. As a result, it can cause lesions in the mouth. To counteract this, one eats ice to shrink the capillaries that would take the drug deeper into the tissue. So after her appetizer, Rose will begin to eat ice for half and hour before administration of the drug, then throughout the drip and for an hour after it's done. We'll probably be done around 3am.
