The Source of the Problem?
Rose was checked out by an ENT today, who discovered an ear infection that may very well be the source of the infection causing her fever. Her hearing has been the pits for a week or so, and she finally made the point that she wanted an exam. Voila.
So she'll also receive some treatment specific for this bug and hopefully knock it out.

ReplyDeleteSeriously, I'm thinking...a 2 by 4 would be the most effective patient advocacy....I think the noun vs adj 'patient' definitions were intentionally derived from the docs...GO, Rose...GO Team Rose <3
ReplyDeleteOur major discovery is that the word "patient" is a verb. It must never mean "one to whom things are done". "Patienting" means understanding what is being done and why. The nurses and doctors working with Rose are not boobs or negligent, but they work in shifts, with dozens of patients. Despite having world class IT systems here that really are a marvel, patients have to be more on top of things than ever. Why? Because caregivers are reading data on screen more often than the data in their patients' bodies. A great personal mentor once said "Communication is an imprecise art."
ReplyDeleteBy the way, it helps enormously that we have a great personal doctor who listens, interprets, expands our understanding and offers guidance. That relationship is of uncalculable value.
